National Indigenous Peoples’
In line with Proclamation No. 1906, issued on October 5, 2009, which officially declares October as ‘National Indigenous Peoples’ Month, the Philippine Embassy in Canada joins the nation in celebrating this important occasion under the theme “Weaving Culture, Enriching Future: Empowering Indigenous Communities as Bedrock of Sustainable Development.” This year also marks the 28th anniversary of the Indigenous Peoples’ Rights Act (IPRA), a landmark legislation that upholds the rights, dignity, and cultural integrity of Indigenous peoples in the Philippines.
“Sapagkat ang tunay na yaman ng Pilipinas ay hindi ginto. Hindi perlas. Kundi ang mga tao nito.”
This month, we reaffirm our commitment to uplift and stand with Indigenous peoples - because their fight is our fight for dignity, culture, and justice.
We warmly invite the Filipino‑Canadian community and the wider public to join us in this observance and to engage with Dayaw 2025, the Philippine Indigenous Peoples Festival, happening October 7–9 in Negros Occidental, Philippines. The festival will feature cultural showcases, forums, community outreach, and dialogues among 35 Indigenous peoples clusters. For more on Dayaw and to follow its livestream or programming, visit the NCCA Dayaw portal:Dayaw – NCCA Learning Hub My Site
Let us join hands in amplifying Indigenous voices, honoring heritage, and celebrating culture as a living thread that weaves our shared future.
